description

What is Cruiser 200 and why choose it?

Cruiser 200 by International Náutica is a polishing antifouling coating designed to protect boat hulls against fouling organisms such as slime, aquatic plants and animals. Suitable for both professional and consumer applications, it can be used on vessels sailing in fresh or salt water. Its controlled eroding technology helps avoid paint build-up on the hull and delivers up to one year of antifouling performance. Cruiser 200 is suitable for all common marine substrates, including aluminium, and is available in a range of bright colours.

Application conditions and methods

  • Methods: Brush, roller, airless spray (professional only)
  • Product temperature during use: minimum 5°C / 41°F, maximum 35°C / 95°F
  • Ambient temperature during application: minimum 5°C / 41°F, maximum 35°C / 95°F
  • Substrate temperature: 3°C / 5°F above dew point and maximum 35°C / 95°F
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation during use.
  • Cleaner: YTA085 International Antifouling Thinner No.3.
  • Mixing: Thoroughly stir until the product is mixed to a uniform consistency before use.
  • Thinning: Not recommended, as antifouling performance can be compromised if the correct dry film thickness is not applied.
  • Sanding: Antifoulings should only be wet sanded. Never dry sand or burn off old antifoulings. True colour will develop after immersion.
  • High-speed vessels: Regular travel at around 30 knots may result in early wear-through.

Applications and use cases

  • Sailboats and motorboats in marinas: Protection against slime and marine growth during seasonal mooring in fresh or salt water.
  • Aluminium and alloy hulls: Suitable for use on aluminium and alloy substrates when correctly primed.
  • Refurbishment of previously antifouled hulls: Can be applied directly over most existing antifoulings that are in sound condition (excluding VC17m/PTFE).
  • Mixed-fleet maintenance: One product suitable for GRP, steel, iron, lead and wood hulls when used over the appropriate primers.

Surface preparation overview

  • Previously antifouled surfaces in good condition:
    • Remove all fouling and contamination, including the leached layer.
    • Wash with high pressure fresh water (3000 psi / 207 bar) and/or scrape and wet sand with 80–120 grade paper.
    • Do not dry sand.
    • If the existing antifouling is incompatible or unknown, seal with a suitable International Paint barrier/sealer coat.
  • Previously antifouled surfaces in poor condition:
    • Use Interstrip to remove all traces of antifouling.
  • Priming bare substrates:
    • Bare GRP: prime with Gelshield 200 for osmosis protection, or Primocon or Interprotect.
    • Steel / iron / lead / wood: prime with Interprotect or Primocon.
  • High-wear areas: In all schemes, apply an extra stripe coat on chines, rudders, sterngear and any leading edges.

FAQ

How long does Cruiser 200 provide antifouling protection?

When applied at the recommended total dry film thickness of 100 microns, Cruiser 200 provides up to one year of antifouling performance.

On which hull materials can I use Cruiser 200?

Cruiser 200 is suitable for all substrates, including suitably primed Aluminium/Alloy and zinc-sprayed surfaces, as well as GRP, steel, iron, lead and wood when used over the specified primers.

Can I apply Cruiser 200 over an existing antifouling?

Yes, it can be applied directly over most existing antifoulings that are in sound condition, except VC17m/PTFE antifoulings.

What is the recommended application method for DIY users?

For consumer use, application by brush or roller is suitable, using two coats of 50 microns dry each (total DFT 100 microns).

Do I need to thin Cruiser 200 before application?

No. Thinning is not recommended, as it can compromise antifouling performance by reducing the achieved dry film thickness.

How should I prepare a previously antifouled hull in good condition?

Remove all fouling and contamination including the leached layer, wash with high pressure fresh water and/or scrape and wet sand with 80–120 grade paper. Do not dry sand.

What temperatures are suitable for applying Cruiser 200?

Product and ambient temperatures should be between 5°C/41°F and 35°C/95°F. Substrate temperature should be up to 35°C/95°F and at least 3°C/5°F above dew point.

How long must I wait before launching after painting?

Depending on temperature, minimum immersion times range from 24 hours at 5°C to 6 hours at 35°C.

Is Cruiser 200 suitable for high-speed boats?

On vessels regularly travelling at around 30 knots, early wear-through may occur.

Transportation information

During transportation, Cruiser 200 must be kept in securely closed containers. Exposure to air and extremes of temperature should be avoided. The product should remain sealed to maintain its condition throughout transport and storage.
