Achievable gloss levels and mix ratios

By intermixing OJ0300 and OJ0301, the following approximate gloss ranges at 60° can be achieved:

  • Matt / Flat (0–15 gloss units): 100 parts OJ0300 / 0 parts OJ0301.
  • Satin (16–30 gloss units): 60 parts OJ0300 / 40 parts OJ0301.
  • Semi-gloss (31–60 gloss units): 30 parts OJ0300 / 70 parts OJ0301.
  • Gloss (61–85 gloss units): 0 parts OJ0300 / 100 parts OJ0301.

The mix ratios above are advisory. Actual gloss may show slight deviations, so spraying a test panel for customer approval is recommended before full-scale application.

FAQ – Awlcraft CS

1. On which basecoats can Awlcraft CS be applied?

Awlcraft CS is designed to be applied over Awlcraft SE Basecoat. It can also be applied over properly sanded Awlgrip Topcoat, Awlgrip HDT and Awlcraft 2000.

2. How many coats are recommended?

The technical data sheet recommends applying two full air-atomized coats at the specified wet film thickness to achieve the correct dry film thickness.

3. How do I obtain a matt or satin finish?

Use Awlcraft CS Low Gloss Base OJ0300 and Medium Gloss Base OJ0301 in the following proportions (before adding converter and thinner): 100 parts OJ0300 for matt/flat (0–15 GU), or 60 parts OJ0300 / 40 parts OJ0301 for satin (16–30 GU) at 60°.

4. Can Awlcraft CS be polished or waxed?

No. For matt and semi-gloss finishes, polishing or waxing will create glossy spots that stand out from the surface. Once an area becomes glossier, the only remedy is to repaint the affected area. Awlcraft CS is not repairable by spot polishing.

5. Is electrostatic application allowed?

No. The product cannot be applied using electrostatic spray application methods.

6. What are the recommended environmental conditions for application?

Substrate temperature should be between 5–30 °C, product temperature between 15–35 °C, and ambient temperature between 5–30/35 °C depending on the data sheet version. Avoid direct sunlight and late-evening application where condensation may affect gloss.

7. How long is the pot life?

Pot life is approximately 90 minutes at 15–25 °C and 60 minutes at 35 °C, after mixing base, converter and thinner.

8. How should Awlcraft CS finishes be cleaned and maintained?

After painting, allow a minimum of 7 days (ideally up to 21 days) before cleaning. Wash only with pH-neutral soap (Awlwash or Awlwash 2.0) and a soft sponge. Avoid mechanical washing equipment, hard brushes, high-pressure steam, excessive rubbing, polishing and waxing, as these can increase gloss and permanently alter appearance.

9. What should I do if I need data not listed here?
