What is Epifanes Multicover and why choose it?

Epifanes Multicover is a universal, two-component epoxy primer designed for protective priming, bonding, filling and repair on a wide range of substrates. It offers quick chemical drying, excellent adhesion even at lower temperatures and outstanding anticorrosive performance on steel and other metals. Suitable for use above and below the waterline, it can be overcoated with both one-component and two-component paint systems, making it a flexible choice for new builds and maintenance work.

Main features

  • Two-component epoxy system: Base component A (epoxy resin with zinc phosphate) and curing component B.
  • Multi-purpose primer: Functions as bonding, filling and repair primer in both one- and two-component paint systems.
  • Broad substrate compatibility: Suitable for GRP, steel (including thermally galvanized), plywood, aluminium, zinc and non-ferrous metals.
  • Use above and below the waterline: For interior and exterior applications.
  • High filling and anticorrosive properties: Provides a tough, protective barrier, especially on steel.
  • Fast drying, even at lower temperatures: Short dust-dry and touch-dry times to accelerate recoating.
  • Excellent adhesion on bare and painted surfaces: Ideal for maintenance on existing alkyd, urethane and epoxy systems.
  • Recoatable with multiple technologies: Can be overcoated with alkyd, urethane, epoxy and chlorinated rubber primers and topcoats.
  • Semi-gloss grey finish: Provides good visibility of surface defects before topcoating.

Applications and use cases

  • New-build priming: Filling and adhesion-promoting primer on GRP, steel, aluminium, zinc, non-ferrous metals and plywood for interior and exterior structures, above and below the waterline.
  • Maintenance of existing systems: Repair and maintenance primer over sound, previously painted surfaces based on alkyd, urethane or epoxy.
  • Corrosion protection on steel: High filling, zinc-phosphate-containing epoxy layer for enhanced anticorrosive protection.
  • Repair primer: Local repairs on damaged or spot-blasted areas where fast overcoating and good adhesion to various substrates are required.

Application recommendations

  • Ensure the surface is clean, dry, degreased and free from rust and other contamination.
  • Remove salt and other water-soluble contamination by high-pressure fresh water hosing.
  • Degrease with Epifanes Cleaning Solvent or another suitable degreaser; then sand the surface with P60–80.
  • Do not apply wet-on-wet. Avoid excessively thick wet films to prevent sagging and drying problems.
  • Avoid application in direct sunlight or strong wind to prevent too rapid solvent evaporation and reduced flow.
  • Ensure the temperature of paint, object and surroundings do not differ significantly.
