description

What is UNY MARINE HS M PART A and why choose it?

UNY MARINE HS M PART A is the base component of a two-pack, high-solids polyurethane finish paint from Chugoku. Based on an acrylic polyol and non-yellowing poly-isocyanates (when combined with its hardener), it delivers a tough, glossy topcoat with excellent long-term durability. It is designed for demanding marine and industrial environments, offering strong UV resistance, very good gloss and colour retention, and high resistance to oils and many chemicals.

When mixed with the corresponding hardener, UNY MARINE HS M is suitable both as a marine topcoat for ship superstructures and decks, and as a protective finish for chemical and petrochemical plants, power plants, bridges, wind turbines and other steel structures.

Main features

  • High-solids polyurethane finish – high build, two-component system for durable protection and reduced solvent emissions.
  • Excellent weathering resistance – maintains gloss and colour for a long term, with resistance to UV radiation and yellowing.
  • Mechanical robustness – tough film with very good impact and abrasion resistance.
  • Chemical and oil resistance – suitable for areas exposed to petroleum products and various chemicals.
  • Strong adhesion – excellent bonding to recommended epoxy and anti-corrosive undercoats.
  • Re-coatable system – can be overcoated within recommended intervals at a wide temperature range.
  • Wide application window – can be applied by airless spray, brush or roller from -5 °C up to 30 °C and 85% relative humidity (maximum).
  • Versatile end uses – marine topsides and decks, as well as onshore steel infrastructures such as plants, bridges and wind turbines.

FAQ

  1. Is UNY MARINE HS M PART A a complete paint on its own?

No. It is the base component of a two-pack system and must be mixed with the specified hardener before application.

  2. What is the correct mixing ratio for base and hardener?

The mixing ratio is 88 parts base to 12 parts hardener by volume (90:10 by weight).

  3. Which thinner should be used?

Use URETHANE THINNER A, typically 0–15% by volume for airless spray. The exact amount depends on application conditions.

  4. What is the recommended dry film thickness per coat?

The recommended dry film thickness is 50–75 µm per coat, corresponding to 76–114 µm wet film.

  5. At what temperatures can I apply this product?

Application is possible from -5 °C to 30 °C, provided the relative humidity does not exceed 85% and proper drying intervals are respected.

  6. How long is the pot life after mixing?

Pot life ranges from about 24 hours at -5 to 5 °C, to 8 hours at 30 °C. Always prepare only the amount that can be used within the pot life for the prevailing temperature.

Section 8 – Individual protection measures

General engineering controls

  • Provide adequate ventilation using local exhaust and general extraction.
  • If ventilation does not keep vapour and particulate levels below occupational exposure limits, suitable respiratory protection is required.
  • During spraying in a booth, operators may need compressed air-fed respirators until solvent vapour and overspray levels are below limits.

Respiratory protection

  • If workers may be exposed above the exposure limit, use a respirator to EN 140 fitted with a combined particulate and vapour filter to EN 14387 with an assigned protection factor of at least 10 (e.g. A2P3).
  • For dry sanding, cutting or welding on the dry film, use appropriate respiratory protection if local exhaust ventilation is insufficient.

Hand protection

  • Use chemical-resistant gloves tested according to EN 374 for repeated or prolonged contact.
  • High protection (breakthrough time > 480 min / 240–480 min): Polyethylene (PE) gloves (min. 0.062 mm) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) gloves (0.2–0.3 mm).
  • Medium protection (60–120 min / 120–240 min): Polyethylene (PE) gloves (0.062 mm) and PVA gloves (0.2–0.3 mm).
  • For spray application: Nitrile gloves provide good protection.
  • For intensive solvent contact (e.g. immersion): Viton gloves provide good protection.
  • Use PE gloves as under-gloves in difficult situations (high exposure, unknown composition or properties of chemicals).
  • Replace gloves regularly and immediately if damaged; follow glove manufacturer’s instructions for use, storage and maintenance.

Eye and face protection

  • Use safety eyewear tested according to EN 16321 and EN 166, designed to protect against liquid splashes.

Skin and body protection

  • Wear anti-static clothing made of natural fibre or high temperature-resistant synthetic fibre (EN ISO 13688).
  • Barrier creams may help protect exposed skin areas but should not be applied after exposure has occurred.

Environmental protection

  • Do not allow the product or cleaning residues to enter drains or watercourses.
