Surface preparation

  • Newbuilding: Apply over the recommended primer. Areas of breakdown or damage should be prepared to Sa2½ (ISO 8501-1:2007) and re-primed before applying Intercept 8500 LPP.
  • Major refurbishment: Apply over the recommended primer scheme. Damaged areas should be prepared to SSPC-SP10 (or specified standard) and re-primed prior to application.
  • Repair over self: As soon as the vessel enters dry dock and before the hull dries, clean using close high pressure fresh water washing (3,000 psi / 211 kg/cm²) with a fan-jet lance. Apply the recommended anticorrosive primer where required and overcoat with Intercept 8500 LPP within the primer’s overcoating interval.
  • Repair over other antifoulings: For use over International Paint TBT-free antifoulings, Intersmooth SPC or competitor antifoulings, specific guidance must be obtained from your International Paint representative.

Engineering controls and hygiene

  • Wash hands, forearms and face thoroughly after handling, and before eating, drinking or smoking.
  • Contaminated work clothing should not be allowed out of the workplace and must be washed before reuse.

Eye and face protection

  • Use safety eyewear compliant with an approved standard whenever a risk assessment indicates potential exposure to liquid splashes, mists or vapours.
  • Where contact is possible, wear chemical splash goggles and/or a face shield.
  • If inhalation hazards exist and a full-face respirator is used, this may also provide eye protection.

Hand protection

  • Wear chemical-resistant, impervious gloves compliant with an approved standard.
