Applications and use cases

Adhesive applications

Bostik MSP TURBO is specially formulated for rapid, durable bonding on many construction and renovation substrates.

Exterior bonding

  • Façade panels and claddings.
  • Roof tiles and cornices.
  • Sheds, panels and exterior boards.
  • Fixing various objects to façades or structures.
  • Applications in swimming pools (e.g. mosaic tiles, skimmers and similar components).

Interior bonding

  • Wall and ceiling panels.
  • Skirtings.
  • Mirrors.
  • Ceramic elements and various decorative objects.

Sealing applications

  • Sealing joints on façades.
  • Interior and exterior sealing where an elastic hybrid sealant is required.

Substrates and limitations

  • Adheres on many common construction substrates, including damp surfaces and underwater.
  • Not suitable for: PE, PP, PTFE (Teflon®), soft plastics, neoprene and bituminous surfaces.
  • Not suitable for joints with continuous water load.

Application instructions (summary)

  1. Ensure substrates are solid, clean and free from grease and dust. For the MSP TURBO adhesive (non-sealant) sheet, substrates must be clean, dry and free of loose particles.
  2. For adhesive use, apply with a manual or pneumatic gun in vertical beads, ventilated, spaced 10–20 cm apart (or in separated points approximately every 15 cm according to the older data sheet).
  3. Place the materials in position and press firmly for about 3 seconds until a minimum adhesive thickness of 2–3 mm is achieved between surfaces.
  4. Avoid stressing the bond during the first 24 hours, especially for heavy elements where temporary support or fixing may be required.
  5. Where adhesion may be critical, carry out a preliminary adhesion test.

Primers (where adhesion is not optimal)

  • On non-porous substrates: use Primer Panel Tack.
  • On porous substrates: use Prep P primer.

Cleaning

  • Uncured material and tools (technical data 2016): can be cleaned with solvents such as acetone or isopropanol.
  • Uncured material and tools (more recent sheet): can be cleaned with Bostik Cleaner E; hands can be cleaned with Bostik Cleaning Wipes.
  • Cured material: can only be removed mechanically.

FAQ

1. Can Bostik MSP TURBO be used outdoors?

Yes. It has excellent weather resistance, is UV and humidity resistant and is suitable for exterior bonding and sealing such as panels, tiles, cornices and façades.

2. Does it bond on damp surfaces or under water?

Yes. According to the technical data, it bonds on damp substrates and is suitable for applications under water, including certain swimming pool uses. However, it is not suitable for joints under continuous water load.

3. What is the working time before skin formation?

Skin forms after approximately 10 minutes at 23 °C and 50 % relative humidity (around 15 minutes at 20 °C / 50 % RH in older data). Application and adjustment should be completed within this time.

4. When does the adhesive reach full strength?

The curing speed is approximately 2 mm per 24 hours at 25 °C / 50 % RH. Mechanical strength of 39 kg/cm² is indicated after 7 days on the older data sheet.

5. What temperatures can the bonded joint withstand?

The service temperature range is approximately -40 °C to +90 °C (some data sheets indicate -40 °C to +100 °C).

6. Is Bostik MSP TURBO solvent-free?

Yes. It is described as solvent-free and also free from isocyanates.

7. On which materials should MSP TURBO not be used?

It is not suitable for polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), PTFE (Teflon®), soft plastics, neoprene or bituminous surfaces, and it is not recommended for joints with continuous water load.

8. How much product do I need for a typical job?

One 290 ml cartridge yields approximately 12 linear metres of a 5 mm diameter bead. The actual consumption depends on bead size and substrate geometry.

9. How should I store the cartridges?

Store the cartridges unopened in a dry place, protected from moisture, at around +5 °C to +25 °C (or within 10–35 °C according to some data). Under these conditions the shelf life is up to 18 months from production.

10. Is the product classified as hazardous?

According to the SDS, the mixture is classified as not hazardous under Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 [CLP], although small amounts of methanol are released by hydrolysis during curing and it is harmful to aquatic life. Safety recommendations and personal protection in the SDS must still be observed.
