What is BUTYL PUTTY 1185 and why choose it

BUTYL PUTTY 1185 by Bostik is a preformed thermoplastic butyl rubber sealant supplied in grey rolls. It is permanently mouldable, has high surface tack and provides excellent water vapour tightness. Designed for joints that do not require high mechanical strength, it is suitable for both indoor and outdoor sealing, temporary fixing and repair work, as well as sound and vibration damping. Its resistance to ageing, weather and moisture, together with its solvent-free, low-odour formulation, makes it a practical solution for construction, nautical, plumbing and HVAC applications.

Main features

  • Permanently mouldable with persistent tack for easy positioning and adjustment.
  • Hardens at low temperatures and becomes softer and more tacky at higher temperatures.
  • Resistant to ageing and atmospheric conditions from -30 °C to +90 °C.
  • Stable in fresh and salt water in a pH range from 5 to 9.
  • Very good water vapour tightness.
  • Good adhesion to most common substrates.
  • No odour at ambient temperature.
  • Solvent-free formulation.
  • Does not lose volume over time.
  • Provides temporary fixing, repair sealing and corrosion protection on metal joints.
  • Helps dampen sound and vibrations.
