description

What is SEAJET 036 ENDURANCE and why choose it?

SEAJET 036 ENDURANCE is a high performance, hard matrix antifouling paint with a high copper content and high coverage per litre. It is designed for areas with strong fouling pressure and for boats operating at speeds up to 70 knots. Suitable for properly primed GRP (polyester), wood and steel hulls, it provides a durable, tin-free antifouling system for both sailing and motor boats. Two coats typically protect for one season, with excellent resistance on fast craft and in heavily fouled waters.

Main features

  • Hard matrix copper-based antifouling for high fouling areas.
  • For use on primed GRP, wood and steel hulls (not suitable for aluminium).
  • Recommended for sailing yachts and motorboats up to 70 knots.
  • High volume solids and high theoretical spreading rate for efficient coverage.
  • Available colours: black, red and navy blue.
  • One-pack product, easy to mix and apply by brush, roller or (professional) spray.
  • Maximum immersion time after painting: 6 months.
  • Free from organotin compounds in line with IMO antifouling conventions.

Surface preparation and application

Suitable primers

  • Undercoats / primers: SEAJET 015 UNDERWATER PRIMER, SEAJET 117 MULTIPURPOSE EPOXY PRIMER.

Existing antifouling

  • Clean the hull with fresh water high-pressure wash (approx. 200 bar) to remove fouling and salts.
  • Remove any loose or poorly adherent old antifouling.
  • If the existing antifouling is in good condition and compatible, SEAJET 036 ENDURANCE may be applied directly (see SEAJET compatibility table).
  • If the existing antifouling is incompatible or unknown, apply a barrier coat of SEAJET 015 before SEAJET 036 ENDURANCE.
  • Antifouling should only be wet sanded or chemically stripped. Never burn off or dry sand old antifouling.

New builds / bare substrates

  • GRP / steel: Sand with P100 abrasive, remove all dust and apply SEAJET 117.
  • Wood: Sand with P100 abrasive, remove all dust and apply SEAJET 015.
  • Aluminium: Do not use SEAJET 036 ENDURANCE on aluminium surfaces.

General application guidelines

  • Ensure surfaces are clean, dry and free from salt, grease, oil and other contaminants. Degrease if required.
  • Stir thoroughly before use until a completely homogeneous mixture is obtained.
  • Apply two full coats. Apply an extra coat on leading edges, waterline, rudders and stern gear.
  • Film thickness and coverage are based on roller application; brush application may require additional coats to achieve the specified dry film thickness.
  • After immersion, a slight colour change may occur; colour differences between batches are possible, so mix different batch numbers together before application where uniform colour is required.

Applications and use cases

  • Seasonal protection for sailing yachts operating in areas with high biological activity.
  • High speed motorboats and RIBs up to 70 knots requiring a hard, durable antifouling surface.
  • GRP, wooden and steel cruising boats kept in the water for up to 6 months after application.
  • Refit projects where an existing compatible antifouling is present and a hard matrix upgrade is required.

FAQ

On which hull materials can I use SEAJET 036 ENDURANCE?

It can be used on suitably primed GRP, wood and steel. It must not be used on aluminium.

How many coats are recommended?

Two coats are recommended, with an additional coat on leading edges, the waterline, rudders and stern gear.

What primers should I use before this antifouling?

Recommended preceding coatings are SEAJET 015 UNDERWATER PRIMER or SEAJET 117 MULTIPURPOSE EPOXY PRIMER, depending on substrate and system design.

How long can I wait between painting and launching?

The boat can remain out of the water for up to 6 months after application, provided the coating is not contaminated or damaged.

Can I spray apply this product myself?

Spray application is restricted to professional applicators. For general users, application by brush or roller is specified.

What is the typical coverage?

The theoretical spreading rate is 10.0 m² per litre at 60 µm dry film thickness per coat. Practical coverage will be lower and depends on application conditions and surface profile.

Is SEAJET 036 ENDURANCE tin-free?

Yes, the product does not contain organotin compounds acting as biocides and complies with the IMO convention on harmful antifouling systems on ships.

Does the colour change in the water?

After immersion, SEAJET 036 ENDURANCE may show a slight colour change. Minor colour differences can also occur between production batches.

What is the minimum application temperature?

The ambient temperature should be at least 5°C, and the substrate at least 7°C during application.

Section 8 – Individual protection measures

General exposure control

  • Provide adequate ventilation with local exhaust and general extraction to keep solvent vapour and particulates below occupational exposure limits.
  • Do not allow product to enter drains or watercourses.

Respiratory protection

  • If exposure may exceed limits, use a respirator to EN 140 fitted with an A2P3 (or equivalent) combined vapour and particulate filter to EN 14387 with an assigned protection factor of at least 10.
  • During spray application in spray booths where ventilation is insufficient, use a compressed air-fed respirator until vapour and particulate levels are below exposure limits.
  • For dry sanding, flame cutting or welding on the dry paint film, use suitable respiratory protection; wet sanding is preferred.

Hand protection

Use chemical-resistant gloves tested according to EN 374. Recommended options include:

  • High protection, repeated or prolonged exposure (>480 min breakthrough): Polyethylene (PE) gloves 0.062 mm; butyl/Viton gloves 0.70 mm.
  • High protection, 240–480 min: Polyethylene (PE) gloves 0.062 mm; butyl/Viton gloves 0.70 mm.
  • Medium protection, 120–240 min: Polyethylene (PE) gloves 0.062 mm; PVA gloves 0.2–0.3 mm; butyl/Viton gloves 0.70 mm.
  • Short-term / splash, 30–60 min: Polyethylene (PE) gloves 0.062 mm; PVA gloves 0.2–0.3 mm; butyl/Viton gloves 0.70 mm; nitrile gloves 0.31 mm.

Gloves must be inspected regularly and replaced at the first sign of damage. Use PE gloves as under-gloves in demanding situations (high exposure or unknown chemical composition).

Eye and face protection

  • Wear safety goggles or face shield tested to EN 166, suitable for protection against liquid splashes.

Skin and body protection

  • Wear antistatic protective clothing made from natural fibres or high temperature resistant synthetic fibres.

General hygiene measures

  • Observe all precautionary statements on the label.
  • Avoid skin and eye contact and inhalation of vapours or spray mist.
  • Smoking, eating and drinking should be prohibited in the application area.
