description

What is SEAJET 039 PLATINUM (2-PACK) and why choose it

SEAJET 039 PLATINUM (2-PACK) is a high performance, self polishing copolymer (SPC) antifouling paint for yachts and other recreational craft. This two-pack system is designed for use in the highest fouling areas and is ideal for blue water cruisers and Super Yachts. It can be applied on suitably primed GRP, wood and steel hulls (not aluminium) and provides long-lasting fouling protection when applied at the specified film thickness.

Main features

  • Advanced SPC antifouling technology for ultimate performance in heavy fouling waters.
  • Two-pack product (Component A + Component B) for controlled curing and durability.
  • Suitable for all properly primed GRP, wood and steel substrates.
  • Not suitable for aluminium surfaces.
  • Available colours: mid blue, navy blue, red and black.
  • Recommended application by brush, roller or spray (spray for professional use only).
  • High solids content with a theoretical spreading rate of 10.0 m²/l at 48 µm dry film thickness (roller application).
  • Designed for cruising yachts operating in high fouling, warm or temperate waters.
  • Compatible with SEAJET 015 Underwater Primer and SEAJET 117 Multipurpose Epoxy Primer.

Technical specifications

  • Product type: Advanced Self Polishing Copolymer (SPC) antifouling, two-pack.
  • Suitable substrates: Properly primed GRP, wood, steel.

  • Paint output pressure (spray): 12.0 MPa.
  • Thinning: SEAJET THINNER A, 0–5 % by volume.
  • Ambient temperature during application: min. 5 °C – max. 35 °C.
  • Substrate temperature during application: min. 7 °C – max. 35 °C.

  • Maximum relative humidity during application: 85 % R.H.
  • Pot life: 36 hours (after mixing, under stated conditions).
  • Drying times at 5 °C (48 µm DFT): surface dry 3 h, hard dry 12 h, minimum overcoating 12 h, no maximum, dry to launch 24 h.
  • Drying times at 10 °C (48 µm DFT): surface dry 2 h, hard dry 8 h, minimum overcoating 8 h, no maximum, dry to launch 18 h.
  • Drying times at 20 °C (48 µm DFT): surface dry 1 h, hard dry 5 h, minimum overcoating 5 h, no maximum, dry to launch 12 h.
  • Drying times at 30 °C (48 µm DFT): surface dry 30 min, hard dry 4 h, minimum overcoating 4 h, no maximum, dry to launch 10 h.
  • Shelf life: Minimum 2 years at 20 °C.

Note: Drying times and overcoating intervals increase with increasing film thickness. Before recoating, always verify that the existing paint film is fully dry through.

Surface preparation and application

Surface preparation

  • General cleaning: High pressure fresh water wash (approx. 200 bar) to remove fouling and salts.
  • Existing antifouling in good condition: Check SEAJET antifouling compatibility table. If compatible, apply SEAJET 039 PLATINUM (2-PACK) directly.
  • Existing antifouling not compatible or unknown: Apply a barrier coat of SEAJET 015 Underwater Primer.
  • Existing antifouling in poor condition: Completely remove old antifouling. Old antifouling should only be wet sanded or chemically stripped. Never burn-off or dry sand old antifouling.
  • Cleanliness: Ensure surfaces are dry and free from salt, grease or oil. Degrease where required.
  • New GRP/steel: Sand with P100 abrasive paper, remove all dust and apply SEAJET 117 Multipurpose Epoxy Primer.
  • New wood: Sand with P100 abrasive paper, remove all dust and apply SEAJET 015.
  • Aluminium: Do not use SEAJET 039 PLATINUM (2-PACK) on aluminium.

Mixing and application

  • Add Component B gradually to Component A in 3–4 portions while mechanically mixing.
  • Stir thoroughly before and during use to maintain homogeneity.
  • Due to chemical reaction, the mixed product can thicken; if applied within the stated pot life, this does not affect performance.
  • For airless spray, use the product within 4 hours after mixing and use a pre-filter.
  • Apply at least two full coats to achieve the recommended dry film thickness.
  • Apply an extra coat on leading edges, waterline, rudders and stern gear.
  • Film thickness and coverage depend on application method; brush application may require additional coats to reach the specified thickness.
  • After immersion, a slight colour change may occur. Colour differences between batches are possible; mix different batches together before application if colour uniformity is critical.

Applications and use cases

  • Antifouling protection for yachts and recreational boats operating in high fouling areas.
  • Ideal for blue water cruising where long-term fouling protection is required.
  • Suitable for Super Yachts and vessels sailing in waters with high fouling pressure.
  • Use on underwater areas of properly primed GRP, wooden and steel hulls.
  • Areas requiring extra protection such as leading edges, waterline, rudders and stern gear when additional coats are applied.
