SEAJET 039 PLATINUM MONO COMPONENT is a high performance self-polishing copolymer (SPC) antifouling paint designed for boats operating in all fouling environments, including the highest fouling areas. Based on advanced resin technology from Japan, it offers long lasting protection against marine growth on suitably primed GRP, wood and steel hulls. The product is single pack (one component), making it easier to handle and apply than multi-component systems. It must not be used on aluminium surfaces.

Applications and typical use cases

Recommended substrates and systems

  • GRP (polyester) and steel hulls:
    • Sand with P100, remove all dust.
    • Prime with SEAJET 117 MULTIPURPOSE EPOXY PRIMER or SEAJET 015 UNDERWATER PRIMER as specified.
    • Apply the specified number of coats of SEAJET 039 PLATINUM MONO COMPONENT.
  • Wood:
    • Sand with P100, remove all dust.
    • Prime with SEAJET 015 UNDERWATER PRIMER.
    • Apply SEAJET 039 PLATINUM MONO COMPONENT as antifouling.
  • Existing antifouling in good condition:
    • High pressure fresh water wash (approx. 200 bar) to remove fouling and salt.
    • Ensure the surface is dry, clean and free from salt, grease or oil; degrease if necessary.
    • Check compatibility using the SEAJET antifouling compatibility table before overcoating.
  • Existing antifouling in poor condition:
    • Remove the old antifouling completely.
  • Aluminium: not suitable – SEAJET 039 PLATINUM MONO COMPONENT must not be used on aluminium surfaces.

Section 8 – Personal protective measures

Exposure controls

  • Provide adequate ventilation using local exhaust and general extraction to keep solvent vapour and particulates below occupational exposure limits.
  • Dry sanding, flame cutting or welding on the dry paint film may generate hazardous dust or fumes. Prefer wet sanding. If exposure cannot be controlled by ventilation, use suitable respiratory protection.

Respiratory protection

  • If workers may be exposed to concentrations above the exposure limit, use a respirator to EN 140 fitted with a combined filter for particulates and vapours to EN 14387 with an assigned protection factor of at least 10 (for example A2P3).
  • When working inside a spray booth where ventilation is insufficient, operators should use a compressed air-fed respirator during spraying and until vapour and particulate concentrations fall below exposure limits.

Hand protection

There is no single glove material that provides unlimited resistance. For repeated or prolonged contact, use gloves tested according to EN 374. Recommended options include:

Nitrile gloves offer good protection during spray application. Follow the glove manufacturer’s instructions on use, storage, maintenance and replacement. Replace gloves regularly and immediately if damaged. PE gloves can be used as under-gloves in situations of high or uncertain exposure.

Eye and face protection

  • Wear safety eyewear tested according to EN 166 and designed to protect against liquid splashes.

Skin and body protection

  • Wear suitable protective clothing. Personnel should use anti-static clothing made of natural fibres or high temperature resistant synthetic fibres.

Environmental protection

  • Do not allow the product to enter drains, sewers or watercourses.
  • Spillages must be contained and collected with non-combustible absorbent materials and disposed of according to local regulations.
