What is BOSTIK MSR BEDDING COMPOUND and why choose it

BOSTIK MSR BEDDING COMPOUND is a one-component, permanently elastic adhesive/sealant based on silyl-modified polymer (SMP). It has been tested and certified according to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) fire exposure test procedures for surface flammability (Resolution A.653) and is approved for use on walls, ceilings and floors. Its combination of easy preparation, excellent adhesion and long open time makes it suitable for demanding marine bedding and bonding applications.

  • Easy to prepare and apply.
  • Excellent adhesion, generally without primer on many substrates.
  • Long open time for positioning substrates.
  • Solvent-free and isocyanate-free.
  • Very good UV resistance and anti-ageing properties.
  • Durable resistance to fresh and salt water.
  • Elastic from -40 °C to +100 °C.
  • Neutral and odourless.
  • Sound and vibration damping properties.
  • Certified in accordance with the European MED directive by Bureau Veritas (IMO Resolution A.653).
  • Available in standard colours: black and light grey.
  • Supplied in 290 ml cartridges and 600 ml tubes.

Applications and use cases

Typical substrates and bonding tasks

  • Bonding steel, aluminium and polyester to wooden decks.
  • Bonding steel, aluminium and polyester to teak boards or artificial decking boards.
  • Bonding and sealing a waterproof plywood sub-deck to sub-decks made of steel, aluminium, polyester or wood.
  • Use on walls, ceilings and floors where compliance with IMO surface flammability requirements is needed.

Adhesion characteristics

  • Generally adheres well without primer to dry, clean and grease-free substrates such as aluminium, coated metal, wood and polyester (GRP).
  • Under extreme environmental conditions (high thermal or mechanical loads and high humidity), the use of Simson Prep P is recommended on wooden substrates.
  • Under these extreme conditions, Simson Prep M is recommended on closed (metal) surfaces.

Application method

  • Can be easily extruded using a manual or air-powered sealant gun.
  • The applied bead can be spread with a spatula.
  • For sealing applications, the material should be tooled or smoothed within 25 minutes (at 20 °C / 50 % RH).
  • For bonding applications, substrates must be assembled within 45 minutes (at 20 °C / 50 % RH).
  • To make optimal use of the high deformability, a minimum adhesive layer thickness of 2 mm is recommended.

Cleaning

  • Uncured residues and tools can be cleaned with a clean, lint-free cloth impregnated with Simson Liquid 1 or Simson Cleaner E.
  • A preliminary test is recommended to check any possible harmful effects of these cleaners on the substrate.

Storage

  • Store in original, unopened packaging.
  • Keep in a dry place at temperatures between +5 °C and +30 °C.
  • Storage stability: 18 months for cartridges, 12 months for tubes under the above conditions.

FAQ

1. What type of product is BOSTIK MSR BEDDING COMPOUND?

It is a one-component, permanently elastic adhesive/sealant based on silyl-modified polymer (SMP) that cures with moisture.

2. On which materials can it be used?

It is used to bond steel, aluminium and polyester to wooden decks and teak or artificial boards, and to bond or seal waterproof plywood sub-decks to sub-decks of steel, aluminium, polyester or wood. It generally adheres well to aluminium, coated metal, wood and polyester (GRP) when these substrates are dry, clean and grease-free.

3. Does it require a primer?

In general, it adheres well without primer. In extreme environmental conditions with high thermal or mechanical loads and high humidity, Simson Prep P is recommended on wood and Simson Prep M on closed (metal) surfaces.

4. What is the open time?

At 20 °C and 50 % relative humidity, the open time is less than 45 minutes.

5. What is the recommended adhesive thickness?

To take full advantage of its high deformability, a minimum adhesive layer thickness of 2 mm is recommended.

6. Is BOSTIK MSR BEDDING COMPOUND resistant to water and weather?

Yes, it has durable resistance to both fresh and salt water and offers excellent UV and climatic resistance.

7. Is the product solvent- or isocyanate-free?

Yes, the solvent content and isocyanate content are both 0 %.

8. In which temperature range does it remain elastic?

It remains elastic between -40 °C and +100 °C.
