description

What is MAX COR CF SPRAY and why choose it?

MAX COR CF SPRAY is a high-solids, two-component, chromate-free epoxy polyamine primer in an aerosol format, designed for aluminum and steel surfaces above the waterline. Based on Controlled Fusion (CF) technology, it delivers excellent anti-corrosive performance, chemical and solvent resistance, and outstanding adhesion without the need for sanding between coats. The innovative 2K aerosol system allows professional-quality spot repairs and coating of hard-to-reach areas where a fast, effective solution is required.

Main features

  • 2K epoxy technology in an aerosol: Two-component epoxy polyamine system (code S4010) dispersed in a pressurized can for easy, controlled application.
  • Chromate-free anti-corrosive primer: Specifically formulated to protect aluminum and steel substrates from corrosion.
  • Controlled Fusion (CF) technology:
    • Extends recoat windows.
    • Eliminates sanding prior to applying subsequent coats within the recoat interval.
    • Ensures a tightly fused intercoat layer and excellent substrate adhesion.
    • Reduces the need for high-hazard chemicals.
  • High performance vs. standard aerosols: Significantly higher performance and film quality than conventional 1K spray cans.
  • Fast application system: Two smooth wet coats applied 15 minutes apart; substrate may remain visible through the dry film.
  • Above-waterline protection: Formulated for use above the waterline only.
  • Colour: Green.

Recoatability over Hullgard Extra Primer

When overcoating Max Cor CF with Hullgard Extra Primer, strictly observe the following overcoating windows:

  • 15°C / 59°F: Minimum 17 hours – Maximum 72 hours.
  • 25°C / 77°F: Minimum 17 hours – Maximum 72 hours.
  • 35°C / 95°F: Minimum 7 hours – Maximum 72 hours.

If the maximum overcoating interval is exceeded, the Max Cor CF layer must be completely removed and reapplied. If it is likely the maximum interval will be exceeded, apply Hullgard Extra to allow up to 6 months overcoating without sanding.

VOC data

  • VOC content (mixed S4010 system, reference R4330 : R3330): 5.48 lbs/gal (656 g/L).

Aerosol operation and pot life

  • Activation:
    1. Shake the aerosol thoroughly for 2 minutes before use.
    2. Remove the red push button from the cap and place it on the bottom of the can. Place the aerosol horizontally with the cap pointing downwards.
    3. Activate by applying even vertical pressure until a click is heard. Press only once.
    4. Write date and time of activation on the label.
    5. Shake again thoroughly for 2 minutes to mix both components.
    6. Perform a trial spray.
    7. After use, invert the can and spray until only propellant exits to clear the valve.
  • Anticipated pot life at 25°C / 77°F and 50% RH: 2 hours in the activated can (shorter at higher temperatures, longer at lower).

Substrate preparation

  • General: The surface must be clean, dry and free of dirt, grease and oil. Use suitable surface cleaners as specified by the manufacturer.
  • Aluminum: Sandblast or grind to 100% clean silver color.
  • Steel: Sandblast or grind to SSPC-SP10 or Sa 2½ standard.

Application conditions

  • Temperature of substrate: Do not apply to surfaces warmer than 40°C (105°F) or colder than 15°C (59°F).
  • Curing: Do not attempt to cure the product below 15°C (59°F).

Applications and use cases

  • Metal priming above the waterline on yachts and marine structures where corrosion protection and adhesion for subsequent coats are required.
  • Spot repairs on previously coated aluminum or steel areas where access for conventional spray equipment is limited.
  • Hard-to-reach areas such as tight corners, complex geometries and localized damage where a compact aerosol solution is advantageous.
  • Professional marine maintenance where extended recoat times and no-sand recoat capability simplify workflows and reduce downtime.
