Hullgard Extra Epoxy Primer Converter (D3730) is the curing component of the Awlgrip Hullgard Extra two-component epoxy primer system. When mixed with the D6120 base, it creates a high-performance substrate primer with excellent anticorrosive properties and long-term recoatability. It is designed to deliver a reliable epoxy film that forms an ideal base for subsequent fairing with Awlfair fairing compounds and for advanced anticorrosive schemes on suitably prepared steel, aluminium, fiberglass and wood.

Suitable substrates (when used as part of the system)

• Grit blasted steel prepared in accordance with SSPC-SP10 to a 50–75 micron (2–3 mil) profile, or Sa2½ outside the US.
• Power-ground steel using 24–36 grit discs to achieve the required profile.
• Abraded aluminium prepared with 36 grit discs.
• Fibreglass after degreasing and abrasion with 180 grit paper.
• Wood that is clean and sanded with 80–180 grit paper.

Typical marine and industrial uses

• Substrate primer before fairing with Awlfair fairing compounds on hulls and superstructures.
• Part of an anticorrosive system over steel or aluminium, including schemes where Max Cor CF is used as an initial coat for enhanced corrosion protection.
