Hullgard Extra Epoxy Primer Converter (D3730) is the curing component of the Awlgrip Hullgard Extra two-component epoxy primer system. When mixed with the D6120 base, it creates a high-performance substrate primer with excellent anticorrosive properties and long-term recoatability. It is designed to deliver a reliable epoxy film that forms an ideal base for subsequent fairing with Awlfair fairing compounds and for advanced anticorrosive schemes on suitably prepared steel, aluminium, fiberglass and wood.
Hullgard Extra Epoxy Primer Converter is intended for use wherever the Hullgard Extra Epoxy Primer system is specified as a high-performance anticorrosive substrate primer.
The converter is the curing component that is mixed with Hullgard Extra Epoxy Primer Base D6120 to create a two-component epoxy primer with anticorrosive properties.
The mix ratio by volume is 10 parts D6120 Base to 1.5 parts D3730 Converter.
Use Awlgrip reducer T0006 when thinning is required. Total reduction should not exceed 15% by volume.
The pot life of the mixed Hullgard Extra Epoxy Primer (D6120 + D3730) is approximately 8 hours.
The maximum recoat time without sanding is 6 months, provided the surface is kept clean. Inspection for cleanliness is recommended and the surface should not be wiped with solvents.
When correctly prepared, the system can be applied to grit blasted or power-ground steel, abraded aluminium, fibreglass, and clean sanded wood as described in the surface preparation section.
The mixed system can be applied by airless spray, conventional spray, brush or roller. Airless spray is the most efficient method, and roller application direct to metal should be avoided.
Do not apply to surfaces less than 3 °C (5 °F) above dew point or warmer than 41 °C (105 °F). Ambient temperature should be between 13 °C (55 °F) and 41 °C (105 °F).
