  2. Wet film thickness (WFT): 80 – 100 µm (3 – 4 mils) per cross coat.
  3. Flash-off/evaporation time between cross coats: approximately 30 minutes to 4 hours.
  4. Resulting dry film thickness (DFT): 60 – 100 µm (2.4 – 4 mils) after two cross coats.
  5. Use freshly prepared material for the second application.

Pot life and drying (HS Clear Coat)

No. The ALEXSEAL HS Base Coat / HS Clear Coat system is designed for areas not subject to permanent water immersion.

2. Is this clear coat intended for professional or DIY use?

The product documentation specifies “Professional Use Only,” so it is intended for trained professional applicators.

3. How many coats of HS Clear Coat should be applied?

After the HS Base Coat has dried, apply 2 cross coats of ALEXSEAL HS Clear Coat Clear Gloss LN at 80 – 100 µm WFT per cross coat, resulting in 60 – 100 µm DFT.

4. What is the correct mixing ratio?

Mix 1 part H0150 HS Clear Coat base, 1 part C5067 Converter and 1 part ALEXSEAL HS Clear Activator (R5561 or R5531). The activator amount is fixed and must not be changed.

5. What is the pot life of the mixed product?

Approximate effective pot life is 3 h at 15°C, 2.5 h at 20°C, 2 h at 25°C and 1.5 h at 30°C.

6. When can I sand the clear coat?

At 20°C, sanding is possible after approximately 30 hours; at 25°C after about 24 hours; and at 30°C after about 16 hours, according to the technical data sheet.

7. How long does it take until the coating is fully cured?

The clear coat is fully dry after about 10 days at 15°C, or 7 days at 20–30°C.

8. Can I reapply HS Clear Coat on top of an existing clear layer?

Yes. The product can be reapplied once the surface is dry. Recoat windows range from 90 minutes at 15°C to 45 minutes at 30°C, with a maximum of 3 days.

9. Is special ventilation required during application?

The safety data sheet recommends adequate local exhaust and general ventilation. If vapour concentrations exceed occupational exposure limits, suitable respiratory protection must be used.

Section 8 – Personal protective measures

Exposure controls

  • Provide adequate ventilation, preferably through local exhaust and good general extraction.
  • If ventilation is insufficient to keep solvent vapour below workplace exposure limits, use appropriate respiratory protection.

Individual protection equipment

  • Eye/face protection: Wear safety goggles to protect against solvent splashes.
  • Hand protection:
    • Use chemical-resistant protective gloves tested according to EN 374.
    • Recommended materials for short-term contact (splash protection): nitrile rubber or neoprene.
    • Recommended thickness: > 0.4 mm, with breakthrough time > 480 minutes.
    • Check gloves for workplace suitability and replace immediately if damaged or worn.
  • Skin and body protection: Wear suitable protective clothing, adapted to the likelihood of potentially explosive atmospheres.
  • Respiratory protection:
    • If solvent concentration exceeds air limit values, wear a suitable breathing apparatus (e.g. half mask with cartridge or air-fed system).
    • Dry grinding, torch cutting or welding may generate hazardous dust or vapour; use wet methods where possible and/or additional extraction and respiratory protection.
  • General protective measures:
    • No eating, drinking or smoking in the work area.
    • Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing.
    • Avoid inhalation of dust from sanding, spray mist and vapours.
    • When working inside a spray booth where ventilation may be insufficient, operators should wear compressed air-fed respirators until particulate and vapour concentrations are below exposure limits.
