  • Hollow structural sections – protection of appropriate hollow sections in interior environments, including configurations filled with concrete in line with tested designs.
  • Refurbishment and upgrades – upgrading fire resistance of existing primed interior steelwork where access for factory application is not possible.
  • Decorative exposed steel – where a white matt intumescent finish is acceptable, or where a compatible topcoat will be applied for colour and aesthetics in visible areas.

INTERCHAR 1260 is intended for internal steelwork in non-exposed environments and is not designed for frequent water immersion or soaking. INTERCHAR 1260 (sealed or unsealed) should be protected from pooling or running water.

FAQ – INTERCHAR 1260

  1. What level of fire protection does INTERCHAR 1260 provide?

It provides up to 60 minutes cellulosic fire protection on a wide range of I-section beams, columns and hollow sections in interior environments. It can provide up to 90 minutes fire protection to BS476 Parts 20-21 and up to 120 minutes fire protection to EN 13381-6:2012 for concrete filled hollow sections, depending on design and section size.

  2. Where can this intumescent coating be used?

It is intended for on-site application to interior exposed structural steel in non-exposed conditions. It is not designed for frequent water immersion or soaking and should be protected from pooling or running water.

  3. How should the steel be prepared before application?

All steel surfaces must be clean, dry and free from contamination, prepared in accordance with ISO 8504:2000. INTERCHAR 1260 should be applied over a recommended anti-corrosive primer within the specified overcoating interval. Areas of breakdown or damage should be prepared to the specified standard (such as Sa2½ / SSPC-SP6 or SSPC-SP11) and re-primed before applying INTERCHAR 1260.

  4. Which application methods are recommended?
