What is SEAJET CLEAR COAT for Underwater Lights 0.25 L and why choose it

SEAJET CLEAR COAT is a clear foul-release coating designed specifically for underwater lights, transducers and bow thrusters. It provides long-term protection against fouling in both fresh and salt water environments. Fouling may still loosely attach to the coated surface, but it is easily removed by water movement or simple washing with a hose and sponge, keeping underwater components cleaner for longer.

Main features

  • Foul-release technology that limits adhesion of marine fouling.
  • Suitable for underwater lights, transducers and bow thrusters.
  • Effective in both fresh water and salt water.
  • Clear finish that preserves the appearance of underlying substrates.
  • Easy cleaning: fouling is removed by water movement or light washing.
  • One-pack product for straightforward mixing and application.
  • Can be applied by brush or roller; airless spray details are also provided.
  • Designed to be overcoated with SEAJET CLEAR COAT only.

Application conditions

  • Ambient temperature: min. 5 °C – max. 35 °C
  • Max. relative humidity: 85 % R.H.
  • Product temperature: min. 5 °C – max. 35 °C
  • Substrate temperature: min. 7 °C – max. 35 °C

Drying and overcoating data (at DFT 45 µm)

  • At 5 °C: Surface dry 50 min; hard dry 8 hours; minimum overcoating interval 50 min; dry to launch 12 hours.
  • At 10 °C: Surface dry 40 min; hard dry 6 hours; minimum overcoating interval 40 min; dry to launch 10 hours.
  • At 20 °C: Surface dry 30 min; hard dry 5 hours; minimum overcoating interval 30 min; dry to launch 8 hours.
  • At 30 °C: Surface dry 20 min; hard dry 4 hours; minimum overcoating interval 20 min; dry to launch 7 hours.

Drying times and overcoating intervals will increase with increasing film thickness applied. Before re-coating, always check that the existing paint film is through dry.

Applications and use cases

  • Underwater lights: Helps keep light housings free from heavy fouling, supporting optimal light output.
  • Transducers: Provides a smooth, foul-release surface that can help minimise fouling build-up on transducer faces.
  • Bow thrusters: Used over suitable primed surfaces (with SEAJET 114 PROPELLER PRIMER) to limit adhesion of fouling on thruster tunnels and propellers.

Surface preparation and application guidance

  • Before first use, apply 2 coats of SEAJET CLEAR COAT.
  • For re-coating old SEAJET CLEAR COAT, remove any fouling and clean by sponge.
  • For bow thruster maintenance, repair damaged areas by carefully abrading with P-180 abrasive paper, wipe the abraded area with thinner and touch up with SEAJET 114 PROPELLER PRIMER, then apply two fresh coats of SEAJET CLEAR COAT.
  • SEAJET CLEAR COAT works differently from a traditional antifouling; due to its special film properties it limits the adhesion of fouling rather than releasing biocides.
  • SEAJET CLEAR COAT should only be repainted by itself.
  • For removal of fouling growth, a light pressure wash or cleaning by hose pipe and sponge is recommended to avoid damaging the coating.
  • Due to the presence of silicon compounds, contamination of other areas can result in failure in those areas. Brushes and rollers should therefore be dedicated for use with this product or be discarded after use.
  • In case of brush or roller application, more layers may be required to achieve the specified film thickness. Values are based on roller application.

FAQ

What is SEAJET CLEAR COAT used for?

It is a clear foul-release coating for underwater lights, transducers and bow thrusters, limiting the adhesion of fouling in fresh and salt water.

How many coats are recommended?

When using for the first time, apply 2 coats of SEAJET CLEAR COAT.

Can SEAJET CLEAR COAT be applied over other antifoulings?

It should only be repainted by itself. Other preceding coatings are not specified except SEAJET 114 PROPELLER PRIMER for bow thrusters.

How do I clean fouling from a surface coated with SEAJET CLEAR COAT?

Use a light pressure wash or clean with a hose pipe and sponge. This avoids damaging the coating and leaves it like new.

Which thinner should I use?

Use SEAJET THINNER A, with recommended thinning of 0 – 1 % by volume.

What conditions are required during application?

Ambient temperature should be between 5 °C and 35 °C, with maximum 85 % relative humidity. Product and substrate temperatures should also be within the specified ranges.

How long before the coated item can go back into the water?

Dry-to-launch times depend on temperature, ranging from 12 hours at 5 °C to 7 hours at 30 °C at a dry film thickness of 45 µm.

What is the theoretical coverage?

The theoretical spreading rate is 20.0 m² per litre.

Can I reuse brushes and rollers?

Because of silicon compounds in the product, brushes and rollers should be dedicated to SEAJET CLEAR COAT or discarded after use to avoid contamination of other areas.

How should I store the product?

Store containers in a dry, cool and well ventilated space, away from direct sunlight, with lids firmly closed.

Section 14: Transport information

The product should stay in a securely closed container during transport.

Section 8: Personal protection measures

Personal protection advice and additional information can be obtained from the product Safety Data Sheet from Chugoku Paints B.V., which is available on request. The minimum safety precautions in dealing with this paint are:

  • Observe the precautionary notices displayed on the container.
  • Provide adequate ventilation.
  • Avoid skin contact and inhalation of spray mist and vapours.
  • If the product contacts the skin, wash thoroughly with lukewarm water and soap or a suitable cleaner.
  • If the eyes are contaminated, irrigate with water and seek medical advice immediately.
  • Since the product contains flammable materials, keep away from sparks and open flames and do not smoke in the area.
